Grade 5

 December 2020

Fifth Grade will be meeting virtually with Ms. Finneran from Boca Middle to learn about their Pre-Med Choice Middle School program. Teachers will post Boca Middle’s contact information and flyers with information about their program. Don Estridge will have a Virtual Open House on January 7th at 6:30 pm. The link to that meeting will be forwarded once we receive it. If you have any questions, remember to contact the Choice Program representative for that school. They are all willing to help answer any questions you have, so you can make an informed decision about middle school. Remember, you can view the 2021-2022 Choice Program Booklet on the School District Website. Students must apply for the specific program well in advance. You can go to the school district website and click on Student/Parents. Then in the Search box on the upper right corner type in Choice Programs. There you will find the updated Choice Programs booklet, application information, and important dates. Applying online is the most efficient way to submit and manage your child’s application. When using the parent dashboard, your online account will allow you to track the status of your application. Applying online gives you priority access to the lottery results. Do not hesitate to apply. These programs are very competitive and have hundreds of students applying each year. Applications for BAK Middle School must be received on or before December 18th. Applications for all other Choice Programs must be received on or before January 29th. Do NOT miss the application deadlines.
Winter break is rapidly approaching and students are getting excited. Please continue to reinforce school and classroom rules. We still have a bit of material to cover before winter break, and we need our students to remain focused and on task. Winter break is a great time for your child to get in extra practice of skills and concepts taught. Students should continue reading over the break as well as studying notes and/or practicing in online programs set up by their math/science teachers.

Please check with your child to see what supplies need to be replenished, such as notebook paper, and refresh supplies in pencil pouches. New and sharpened #2 pencils would be greatly appreciated.

The Fifth Grade Teachers would like to take this time to wish you and your families a very happy and healthy holiday season.
